Ricci was first recognized and received applause as a child actress in her portrayal of Wednesday Addams in The Addams Family (1991) and Addams Family Values (1993) and for her performance in the role of Kat Harvey in Casper (1995). Ricci changed roles to roles for adults for the role of Kat Harvey in The Ice Storm (1997) and was then praised for her performance of the role in The Opposite of Sex (2000) for which she was nominated for the Golden Globe for Best Actress. The success of her work continued through her performances in Sleepy Hollow (1998) and Monster (2003).
